Sheriff Tom Bracken never wanted to see another epidemic. Chicago taught him exactly how fast disease can turn order into ash. So when shipments begin disappearing and a fever outbreak erupts downriver in Port Calusa, he knows two things immediately: it’s bad, and it’s about to get worse.

He tries to leave Ellie safely at home. Ellie—eight months pregnant and twice as stubborn—comes anyway.

Port Calusa is nothing like Cypress Run. It’s larger, wealthier, and balanced on the edge of catastrophe. As fever spreads through the docks and quarantine camps fill beyond capacity, Tom, Ellie, and Dr. Diego Delgado find themselves racing to save lives in a city where fear is becoming just as dangerous as disease.

But epidemics have a way of exposing more than illness. Dockworkers vanish. Warehouses burn. Guards lie. And beneath the chaos, someone is using the crisis to hide crimes that reach far beyond the harbor.

Worse, the signature on the plot is one Tom recognizes all too well.

As storms gather over the Gulf and the death toll rises, Tom must navigate smugglers, traffickers, politicians, and enemies from his past—before the city tears itself apart, and before the powerful men using Port Calusa’s suffering as an opportunity succeed in putting him six feet under.

Cypress Tide is the second novel in the Cypress Run Quartet—a historical mystery series set in 1880s Florida—blending frontier adventure, medical thriller, and established romance with found family. And alligators. (And pirates?)

— On The Record —

“Boss wasn’t kidding when he said you were something of a firebug, was he?”

Tom’s voice shook almost harder than his hands, but damned if he didn’t force the words past his teeth, “Would you believe me if I told you that fire terrifies me?”

“Oh, aye, seeing as I’ve only met you twice and you raced into it both times,” Donellan chuckled. “Best catch your breath, Sheriff. Fun ain’t over yet.”

What Readers Are Saying

Reader Reviews

I was pretty much captivated from the start of yet another fun read by this author. If you like historic fiction, and also action, heroism, feisty characters, and a lot of heart, you will enjoy this second book in the Cypress Run series.

Nancy O Donnel – Goodreads

I absolutely love this book. I read the first installment with little expectation. Boy, was I wrong. The action started and just kept going. The second book is no different. Tom Bracken does not know when to quit. And he has the scars to prove it. He is the kind of hero everyone needs right now. Just unflappable, unstoppable and pure honest.

Heather L. – Amazon

What makes these stories so special is how refreshingly human the main characters are; they feel completely true to life, wonderfully complex, and utterly loveable despite their flaws.
The author’s descriptive writing is top-tier. Her narratives are so vivid that you can practically see, smell, and hear every single scene unfold around you. It truly feels like you're stepping right into the setting.

The Vibe

Cypress Tide is what happens when the disaster‑chaos energy of Outbreak takes a holiday in 1880s Florida, gets lost among the docks of Peaky Blinders, and is rescued (reluctantly) by the frontier environmental peril of The Terror—all while The Princess Bride heckles from the pier.
